Are we about to witness a new Cold War with Russia? President Putin's increasingly tough stance towards the USA, NATO and the EU has caused some analysts to question whether we might be slipping back into an era of confrontation with Russia. How have things got so bad? Where is Russia heading? What are the options for Europe and North America in dealing with a new energy superpower?
Dr. Fraser Cameron is Director of the EU-Russia Centre. He is also Director of EuroFocus-Brussels, an adjunct professor at the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin and Senior Advisor at the European Policy Centre (EPC), Brussels. After completing his PhD at Cambridge University in 1973, Dr. Cameron joined the British Diplomatic Service where he served for 14 years. Since 1990, and until 2006, he occupied various positions on the European Commission staff and was closely involved in policy issues related to the external relations of the EU, such as global governance, transatlantic relations, Asia, CFSP and enlargement. From 1999 to 2001, he was Head of the Political and Academic Affairs Section in the Delegation of the European Commission in Washington DC.
