The Principles for Responsible Investment and the Canadian Business Ethics Research Network (CBERN) are pleased to announce the Fifth Annual Academic Network Conference on Responsible Investment. The conference is a unique opportunity for researchers, students and investment professionals to present research, identify research opportunities and build partnerships to continue to enhance our knowledge of responsible investment.
Responsible investment (RI) is an increasingly complex practice. It involves organizations across the entire investment chain and varies significantly in different institutional contexts and where there are different patterns of ownership. Further, emerging practices in the field such as ‘ESG integration’ involve complex decision-making processes that are based on unstandardized or incommensurable information and new technologies such as social networking that are used to facilitate information exchange. Furthermore, many RI practitioners often must reconcile competing goals such as using ESG information to seek alpha and create public goods.
The purpose of the 2012 Academic Network Conference is to develop our understanding of the complexity of institutions, organizations, strategies and processes that make up responsible investment. We invite submissions for sessions on topics that address one or more of the following themes:
- Investment strategies;
- Shareholder engagement and collective action;
- Public policy and regulation;
- Organizations and organizational change;
- Market structures and systemic change
