CBERN completes its first Community University Research Alliance SSHRC grant application
On September 18th, 2009 CBERN officially submitted its first CURA grant application to the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. Throughout the summer of 2009 CBERN put together a research alliance which proceeded to draft a detailed proposal for a case study examination of ethical mining practices and responsible economic development in the Canadian north.
The alliance grew to encompass First Nation communities, the federal government, several Canadian universities, and representatives from the private sector and nongovernmental sectors.
The detailed proposal is available for download on the project web portal at www.cbern.ca/ethicsandnortherndevelopment
An announcement of results is expected in the winter of 2010.

CBERN Visits the Naskapi First Nation, Kawawachikamach
In June of 2009, Alex Barber, CBERN Project Coordinator and Obadiah George, ABEL Assistant Project Manager and CURA Partner, traveled to Kawawachikamach to meet with the Naskapi First Nation community and to explore the technological capacity of the Naskapi First Nation.
CBERN Project Director Wesley Cragg also met with the Naskapi Nation in the end of June and at the end of August to develop an action plan for building a northern network capable of addressing the needs of the Naskapi Nation which helped to shape the CURA proposal.

Under our partnership, CBERN participants are encouraged to submit case studies of best practices. All CBERN member-generated content to ethipedia.net will be attributed to yourself, searchable via the regular directories on the site, and under a special CBERN directory within Ethipedia.net. We would encourage all CBERN network participants to consider submitting a practice at www.ethipedia.net
