Newsletter Number 6
Posted: 2007/09/01

In Newsletter #5, we announced a launch event to take place on September 28, 29, & 30 at York University in Toronto.  You will find a description of this event on our website (www.cbern.ca).

The purpose of this Newsletter is to bring you up-to-date on plans and the agenda for the launch. Note that a detailed agenda with times and other information will be posted on the web as the event takes place.

Those who participated in the SSHRC grant application will be participating on site.  However, we are also making every effort to provide others interested in the development of the Canadian Business Ethics Network to participate virtually and as much as possible in real time. Streaming raises ethical and other concerns that we are currently working through.  Therefore, final decisions on what will be streamed have not yet been made.  However, it is relatively certain that the opening presentations Friday morning will be streamed.  They will also be archived for
future reference.

We have decided that the 50 Cent public dialogue event, to take place Friday evening, September 28, will not be streamed. We are not sure about the afternoon event which will involve individual members of the network exploring their vision of the future of the network. It is quite likely that Saturday and Sunday plenary events will be streamed.

We are also planning to use blogs to track presentations and open the door to on-going dialogue.  Participants at the launch will be invited to share their comments as discussion proceeds.  There will be a member of the CBERN
staff providing brief descriptions of presentations and commentary.  Some of the blogs will be password protected.  Others will be open to public participation.  Information about streaming and blogging will be posted to the web and up-dated as required.

Much of what we are doing will be experimental.  Our goal is to experiment with and assess the value of various electronic tools for facilitating the participation of those interested in business ethics and the various initiatives of CBERN.

We invite your participation in the launch event and your evaluation of the value of the various communication tools we will be using over the course of the weekend.  Information about accessing password protected sites will be
posted as they are available together with information about obtaining passwords.

We welcome comments and questions.  Please send them to info@cbern.ca
