About the PhD Cluster
An important mandate of CBERN is to raise the profile of Business Ethics research, help develop the next generation of researchers and practitioner-scholars in this area, and create a Canadian PhD student network or cluster.
CBERN’s approach is to take business ethics research to be a broad umbrella that includes corporate social responsibility, stakeholder engagement, corporate governance and sustainability. This could include research interests such as:
- building sound ethical values into the economy, business strategy, and management,
- encouraging ethical business practices,
- highlighting the importance of linking economic development and societal well-being
Given the interdisciplinary nature of enquiry into these topics, we expect the PhD student network will include representatives from business, philosophy, environmental studies, political science, sociology, religious studies, history, etc.
Since the network is relatively new, there are opportunities to shape the support that the network can provide. Opportunities include participation in a social and educational networking conferences, Research Assistant opportunities with CBERN, meeting and working with senior Canadian and international faculty members working in this area, and other resume-building projects.
